Activities for younger children
As we are personally aware, young children/toddlers are not as keen as other family members on the pastimes for which the Three Peaks Area is famous ie walking, cycling & caving. Happily, there are many other local activities which they & their older siblings will enjoy:
High Bentham - good playground located just off Goodenbourgh road.
Burton in Lonsdsale - good playground located by the river close to the football pitch.
Ingleton - Excellent, brand new large playground - your kids will love it! Follow the signs for the seasonal swimming pool, it is close by. Talking of which, the open air heated swimming pool is normally open from the end of May to the beginning of September. Costumes can be hired. In the Waterfalls Walk car park, there is a small adventure playground sited in the café grounds with outside seating so you can have a coffee whilst the kids tire themselves out.
Clapham - OK playground plus a buggy friendly woodland trail that has lovely views leading up to Ingleborough Cave.
Settle - The Playbarn, a lovely soft play area with a delightful café that serves wholesome food not the Whacky Warehouse variety. Appeals to kids up to the age of about 8/9. Booths Supermarket in Settle, unlike the Booths in Kirkby Lonsdale, has a lovely playground next door.
Grange/ Flookburgh - (just under an hour's drive but worth it). Grange is a beautiful town with a fantastic bakery/café called the Hazelmere, where you can buy a picnic & spare bread & go to feed the large array of ducks on the ornamental lake. It also has a great playground , split into 2 for younger & older children. From there, it is a 2 mile drive to Ducky Park Farm at Flookburgh which is a children's farm with indoor soft play area - great for wet days.
Morecambe - very child friendly. Loads of interesting sculptures and various playgrounds along the promenade. Nearby is Happy Mount Park which has playgrounds, trampolines, a soft play area with a bouncy castle, cafes, gardens etc. Keen cyclists can cycle all the way there along the flat off-road route from Bull Beck car park, near Caton. Very cheap café at Morrisons.
Kendal - the Fun Factory - great soft play area, if you park in the K Shoe Factory overflow car park, it is round the corner, next to Cumbria Heatings. Kendal also has an Asda. One of you could walk into town from here if you want a break from the kids.
